The Community Orchard is located at the entrance to the Colorado Gulch Preserve on Red Feather Way. If you'd like a refresher ahead of the May 4th hands-on demo, a video of a fruit tree pruning presentation with arborist Linda Ries at the Hailey Library is available to watch here. If have any questions, please email Keri York - or call our offices at 20! This workshop will be held in the Wood River Land Trust's Community Orchard, where students will have an opportunity to work with a variety of fruit trees.

This workshop will cover topics such as choosing the most effective pruning tools and will demonstrate how to properly prune fruit trees to maximize their health and productivity. Pear trees dont like a hard pruning very well, so a light pruning yearly is better than a heavy. Always cut back to a branchlet or crotch on a larger limb (over 1' diameter), and back to an outward facing bud/twig on smaller growth. Step 5: Lastly, prune any water sprouts (new vertical growth) and suckers (new growth from the base of the tree).

Step 4: Cut back any long, overgrown branches to balance the shape of the tree. On May 4, at 5PM, we invite you to come and learn how to get your fruit trees ready for the growing season through pruning! With guest instructor, Kelsey Paxon, this fun, hands on and interactive workshop will be held in partnership with the Wood River Land Trust and the Hailey Tree Committee. Remove all dead branches, and crossed (rubbing)/broken growth. This allows for better air circulation and sunlight penetration, which promotes healthy growth.
